How to help

Support and funding

While launching in conjunction with the South African government in 2013, our shelter receives ZERO government funding. Without permanent funding sources from government or corporates, we battle to make ends meet on a monthly basis and have come close to closing our doors due to a significant lack of resources and support. Electricity bills need to be paid, food supplies replenished, airtime to stay in contact with clients and petrol for the vehicle to transport them to the police station, hospital or partner organisations.

How to help

Diepsloot Victim Lifeline

Without funding, Green Door risks having to close down. Please help us to keep doing this important work for the community by considering a financial donation.

Donate comfort packs

The comfort packs help to restore the dignity of victims following unimaginable trauma. The packs consist of but are not limited to:

  • Toothbrush
  • Toothpaste
  • Facecloth
  • Soap
  • A refreshment/snack
  • Sanitary pads
  • Body lotion

Clothing

We are happy to take clothing – old or new – for distribution within the community. Due to the nature of our work, we are always aware of a family, child or individual in need. With clothing donations, we are also able to provide victims who seek help with clean items to wear when they arrive at the shelter. Many of those who come to us for help, often have very little to their names. This is especially the case with expecting mothers, who often do not have anything to clothe or take care of their newborn babies. We are also appealing for donations of baby items such as:

  • Creams
  • Formula
  • Nappies
  • Clothing

Non-perishables

These items are critical for the running of the Green Door shelter. Victims cannot heal or process their trauma if they are without basic needs like something to eat. We use these items for when victims stay overnight at the shelter or for an extended period of time. We also try to provide victims with food packs in the situation where they are unable to survive on their own, especially when seeking justice against their abusers, who they may be financially dependant on. Items needed:

  • Maize meal, rice, soup, noodles
  • Tinned foods like beans, sardines,
  • bull beef
  • Juice, cereal, porridge
  • Milk, tea & coffee
  • Baby formula, baby food such as Purity

Tax rebates for donations received
